Central to the project was the repurposing of the former Commonwealth Institute

The Design Museum was identified as the standout candidate for the 100,000 sq. ft space. As an internationally recognised institution, they represented a strong cultural addition to the neighbourhood and an appropriate long-term purpose for the building specifically.

The residential component consists of 54 apartments designed by Rem Koolhaas and Reiner de Graaf. They are arranged across three pavilions in a 3.5-acre landscaped setting.

The scheme was the winner of the RIBA London Region award in 2017.
